IN OUR OWN WORDS

WHAT DID YOU LEARN ABOUT THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE THAT YOU THINK OTHERS WILL FIND INTERESTING OR MAY NOT ALREADY KNOW?

Isabelle: 1. They have a salon for a nice quick cut. Which is helpful for before an appointment with a child’s doctor. 2. When kids are at RMDH they need to keep their brains working that’s why they provide a K – 12 classroom! 3. Parents and kids can also go to a regular gym in the house to stay fit!

Kayla: It is really nice that people volunteer their time to help people that stay at the Ronald McDonald House.  Over 60,000 hours are volunteered in a year at the San Diego RMHC.

I find it interesting that RMDH has schooling from Kindergarten to 12th grade.  That is great the kids in the family can keep learning while away from their regular school.

RMHC helps families by serving 3 meals a day and having activities to help pass the time such as a game room.

Harrison: 1. There is no cost   2. If you do not have a room at the house, they have showers for you to use. 3. There is a Nursing Room, Family tech center (room will include a computer area, tv gaming, and board game area), computer Lab, Meeting Center and Conference Room.

Chloe: 3 facts I found interesting: That there is a hair salon so the families can get haircuts easily. That there is a school for the siblings to go to. That some people come from Hawaii and have to be away from their regular homes for a long time and they might be homesick.

Liv: I think it’s really cool that RMDH gives people a place to stay free of charge, and that they aren’t trying to make money. It’s amazing to see all the services RMDH provides to help guests feel at home.

Emma: I found it interesting that RMDH offers schooling to siblings staying at RMDH.  I also think it is so nice that the families get free meals at RMDH.

Lily: They give 3 hot meals a day and need books in different languages and provide welcome kits.

Penelope: I had no idea how much the RMDH provides for families with sick children.  Originally, I just thought it was place to stay, like a regular hotel.  It is so much more than I thought it was.  It really is a home-away-from home.  The rooms are really comfortable and cozy and they provide three meals each day of great, quality food along with snacks and a place to cook.  They also provide a school-away-school for siblings in grades TK through 12th during the school year and camps during the summer.  They also have a salon, gym, playground, Padres playroom, outdoor patios, and laundry service.  The RMDH has served local families and families from around the world and provides a place to relax, recharge, and meet people with the same hardships while staying close by their sick children.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS PROJECT?

Isabelle: I really love working on this project, it is nice to know that families are getting what they need to have an easier stay. We are doing a great thing for our community and I am really glad we are doing this. I am so glad people are getting involved, it is a great thing that we are doing. I am happy to do this for a deserving charity and bunch of people.

Kayla: It makes me feel good that we are helping other volunteers with this project by supporting their welcome bag initiative.  I'm glad I'm working on this Bronze award project.

Harrison: I think I am making a good impact and inspiring young girl scouts. I feel proud of myself already, and I feel happy that I know that I'm doing a good thing.

Sophie: I like that we made birthday bags for straight from the heart, they are a place for children of all sort! We also made art bags for Casa de Amparo; they support children affected by child abuse. We’re taking donations for the Ronald McDonald house; they are a place for families while their children are in the hospital and I am glad we can help.

Chloe: I feel glad that we are helping the RMDH and helping the people feel a little cheered up when they are feeling sad. I’m glad there is a place for people to stay when they need it and for them to get to eat their meals. I’m also glad we helped foster kids too because they have been through a hard time.

Lily: The bronze award makes me feel good about myself and the troop because we have collected donations and tried to help everyone we can.

Liv: I’m grateful for the opportunity to help such a great organization. I feel lucky and excited to take part in such an impactful project.

Emma: It makes me so happy to know that the troop is able to help people that have a child in the hospital. I’m happy that 2 news stories were done on our giving project because then others were able to see the stories and help give as well, which will help more people. I am so amazed that complete strangers have helped with donations. I hope that the families checking into the RMDH will feel welcomed and cared for when they receive their welcome bag.

Penelope: I think it is amazing that the RMDH provides all of this for families for free so they can focus on their sick children.  I am really excited to help the RMDH with these welcome bags and it makes me feel really happy that we might be able to provide these families with any kind of comfort, joy, or reminder of home while they're going through such hard and scary times.  It makes me feel really good that so many people care and want to help us help these families.
